What Vision Conditions Do High-Powered Readers Address?

When I think of the devices and when I think of low vision, the name of the condition is not as important as what it's like to see through your eyes. And there are certain conditions that it's somewhat predictable what it would be like to see through your eyes. So macular degeneration, for one, is a loss of central visual acuity.

So what central visual acuity is, that's the sweet spot in your vision where you can see things very clearly. And macular degeneration is that degrading. So basically, what macular degeneration functions as, is it takes your clarity of vision from the inside out and your vision gradually becomes less clear. So where a high-powered reader would help is ultimately with reduced visual acuity at near.

Now it doesn't have to be macular degeneration that causes that. So there's Stargardt’s disease, there is potentially diabetic retinopathy that can affect your central vision, glaucoma can affect your central vision. There are so many different ways that your central vision can be affected. And if your central vision is affected, that's where a high-powered reader can help.
